Ukrainian refugees to live on Electric Picnic site in tents from next week

Ukrainian refugees could be placed in tented accommodation on the site of Electric Picnic from next week.

A spokesperson for the Department of Integration confirmed that the accommodation at the site is for “very short-term use”. TDs were told that the Stradbally site was identified as “one of the preferred sites” that could be used as a “contingency option” due to the “rapid timeframe within which resources and facilities could be available ”.

The briefing note added that “the provider has proposed to enact a temporary dome facility on site, with the intention to provide entertainment/recreation space to children”.A Department of Integration spokesperson confirmed that 92,400 people have entered state-sourced accommodation since February 2021.More than 10,000 have arrived from Ukraine since May, with an average of 650 people arriving per week.
