Romblon lone district Representative Eleandro Jesus Madrona flagged the Energy Regulatory Commission for its supposed failure to act on the National Power Corporation's request to adjust power rates, resulting in the 20-hour daily power outage in Occidental Mindoro.
The governor said the problem stems from Omeco’s lack of budget to buy fuel as it is yet to receive its subsidy from the government through Napocor. “This man-made disaster is not only a source of inconvenience and irritation but will also adversely affect businesses especially tourism which is one of the main sources of livelihood in these island-provinces,” the lawmaker added. In a message to GMA News Online, ERC Chairperson Monalisa Dimalanta denied the claim that Napocor had requested the ERC to adjust the power rates in the province.
For his part, OCMPC chief operating officer Calvin Luther Genotiva also pointed to the non-payment of Napocor of fuel subsidies for the past six months as the reason for the firm to impose rotational brownouts.
Dati kasi bawal ‘yun,” Arances explained.
