The effects of climate change are projected to cost Ontario an extra $1.5 billion annually on average in the next few years just to maintain public transportation infrastructure, the province's financial watchdog said in a report Thursday.

By 2030, changes in extreme weather mean climate-related costs will accumulate to a total of $13 billion, the Financial Accountability Office said.

The study didn't even take into effect damage from wildfires or ice storms, focusing instead on extreme rainfall, extreme heat and freeze-thaw cycles. Green Party Leader Mike Schreiner, who originally asked for a report on the topic, called on the government to create a dedicated adaptation fund and commit to reducing pollution by half this decade.

“If doing the right thing won't get Ford to act, my hope is that money will. Today's FAO report lays out the massive repair bill that is coming due right now, unless the government acts urgently to make public transportation and other infrastructure climate-ready.”

embezzle our tax money in the name of climate change

The government response to 'climate change' - like the government response to Covid-19 - will see the government reach and tax bite grow.

Climate change? Lmao! Stop chem trails, stop cloud seeding, stop your government weather modification programs and calling climate change, do your homework and call the government out on there bullsh.t. or is all that free government money to sweet ?

Maybe that’s because we have some of the stupidest transportation infrastructure in the world.

Bull shit, bull shit, bull shit

Here we go! Can't talk about COVID so let's restart the climate change narrative...people are tired, more bogus elite BS

Fake news

Nonsense assumptions. Zero scientific basis, just assuming catastrophic worst scenarios which are based on RCP 8.5. Complete rubbish.

Another logic applied to fetch more out of tax payer’s pocket. First thing, increase transit fares. Climate change doesn’t get affected with all the construction that’s happening around building weightless homes, digging mines but public transportation infrastructure

When is the climate actually going to change

Lol wonder if they'll realize the true cost of mineral extraction to build this new economy in the next 170+ years

Hoax

What a load of bull shit!

The planet or elitists. Thank god 99% of the world are not elitist. Eventually the 99% will just start taking from the elites.

Vote Liberals . Lets spend trillions .
