An energy crisis and fresh alliances are making the Gulf more powerful, more volatile—and impossible for the world to ignore

roughly 1m football fans will descend on Qatar for the World Cup, many of them travelling via neighbouring cities such as Dubai and Abu Dhabi. They will find a Gulf in the midst of a $3.5trn energy bonanza, courtesy of

The Gulf states belong to a region that has had a dreadful two decades. Amid wars and uprisings, a million people have died violently in the Middle East and its share of worldhas dropped from 4% in 2012 to 3%. America has cut its military presence following the debacles in Iraq and Afghanistan, leaving old allies, including the Gulf states, fearful of a security vacuum filled by Iran and its proxies.

Even as energy enriches the Gulf—and adds to the heavy burden of stabilising the world’s climate—the second force at work is a new alignment of power in the Middle East. Over the past decade Iran has established a sphere of influence across a northern belt including Iraq, Lebanon and Syria. A reaction is in full swing as most Gulf states, Egypt, Israel and others grow closer.

Because, as is known - despite the affirmations of current European mass journalism - fracking is a practice that was abandoned not because it was dangerous but because low oil prices did not compensate for production costs.

For example, while the non-specialist media tells us of a battle between good and evil, the professionals remind us that what Sweden, Turkey, Russia and Ukraine have in common are exploratory fracking contracts with the Netherlands.

The war is a tragedy, but the cynical side of each tragedy is what the specialized media show us.

Boom time in the gulf? But until when?! Some scientists predict oil deposits could be used up as early as 2055. In other words: in 33 years from now.!

👁 Sahip olan değil, bağışlayan zengindir.

We don't have an energy crisis. With a risk crisis. We have the energy, we don't have the will. Nuclear is there. But it somehow got associated with bombs and a handful of disasters that are no worse than mining or gas drilling disasters.

Decades? Maybe a decade, maybe... The golf states are about ten years away from being broke. Oil and fossil fuels in general are on their way out, regardless of the crisis of the moment. Our planet can't take anymore CO2, and the economics have already largely turned against FF.

Not really! It just makes more real for any government to run from dependence on external sources of energy! Oil has its place in an economy but should not be the overriding issue of any nations survival! Even the 'oil' kingdoms, who should be most conscious of this fact!

I doubt the possibility of the fresh alliances in making the Gulf more powerful with the raising Global Trend of The Green Revolution, Electric Cars, and Zero Carbon Emissions yet the Gulf is Full of Oil & Petroleum.
