A mission from the UN's International Atomic Energy Agency is expected to visit Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant next week after it was temporarily knocked offline.

The Associated PressAn overview of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant and fires is seen, in Enerhodar, Ukraine, on Wednesday.

Ukraine's state nuclear energy company said that the plant's six reactors had been disconnected from the country's national grid, and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy blamed Russian shelling. Zelenskyy said the plant's emergency backup diesel generators had to be activated to supply power needed to run the plant.

Ukraine's state nuclear company said on Friday that one reactor had been reconnected to the Ukrainian grid and was again supplying the country with electricity. Ukraine has alleged that Russia is essentially holding the plant hostage, storing weapons there and launching attacks from around it, while Moscow accuses Ukraine of recklessly firing on the facility.Ukrainian officials said an area close to the plant came under a barrage of shelling overnight, amid mounting concerns that an armed conflict near a working atomic plant could cause more serious damage, even as Zaporizhzhia's reactors are protected by reinforced concrete containment domes.

Many nuclear plants are designed to automatically shut down or at least reduce reactor output in the event of a loss of outgoing transmission lines. The IAEA said Ukraine informed it that the reactors' emergency protection systems were triggered, and all safety systems remained operational. On Saturday, a car bomb killed pro-war Russian commentator Darya Dugina on the outskirts of Moscow.

Zaporozhye officials- Ukraine fired 4 shells at the plant today. Constantly bombarded by Ukrainian nationalists. CBC writes feel good sympathy pieces for them, AZOV NAZI's who surrendered in Mariupol now in prison about to face the people of Mariupol for their war crimes.

This article verges on the bizarre. Ukraine has not been running this plant for 5 months now. It's completely in Russian control and the shelling is in all probability being done by Ukrainians across the lake/river to the north. The dystopia of the western media deepens.

Russia already went to the UN with proof that Ukraine is shelling the NPP with western supplied weapons. AP and CBC aren't even pretending to be honest anymore.

Russia is shelling plant that Russia holds by itself?! Are you OK with common sense? Why Canadian state broadcaster continue to repeat the lie of Ukrainian's officials? Whole article is based on information from Ukrainian side with only one sentence from Russian .

Any firings yet?
