Russia flaring large amounts of gas as UK energy bills surge

The flaring issue first came to light a few weeks ago when Finnish citizens noticed a large flame on the horizon at the Russian border. Analysis shows gas is being burnt at the Portovaya LNG facility, a plant being built by Russia's state-controlled energy company Gazprom close to the start of the Nord Stream 1 pipeline, which carries gas to Germany,

This was the third month in a row with no Russian gas imports, but the first month with no gas, oil or coal imports from Russia. "What we're seeing right now is the kind of increase we have never seen before. It's totally unprecedented," he continued. The price cap sets a limit on the amount suppliers can charge for each unit of gas and electricity used. The overall figure is not a limit on what your total bill can be - it only reflects"typical" usage. The price cap affects customers in England, Scotland, and Wales.

In a statement, Tom Marsland, policy manager at the charity, said they had been"inundated" with calls from disabled people who felt they were being punished for using more energy.Mr Marsland said:"After months of harrowing predictions about energy bills, today's announcement confirms disabled people's fears.

Liz Truss, the frontrunner in the Tory leadership contest, has insisted that she will"ensure people get the support needed" in the coming months if she becomes prime minister. In a statement, a Truss campaign spokesperson said:"Today's announcement will cause grave concern to many people across the UK who will be worried about paying their bills.

"This is on top of ongoing work such as the Energy Bills Support Scheme, which will see a £400 discount paid to consumers from October, and the £1,200 package of support for the most vulnerable." Households will need"urgent help" after Ofgem's energy price cap announcement, chief executive for Energy UK, Emma Pinchbeck, has said.

EdConwaySky Put simply, the so-called party of 'sound economics' are yet again tanking the economy by willful negligence and dithering. By delaying the inevitable, they lead us further from the promised sunlit uplands, towards the desert of destitution, where we'll sip from well of despair.

EdConwaySky Why does Ed Conway always look like he’s about to tell someone they’ve got bum cancer ?

EdConwaySky Boris needs to get out of this war in Ukraine

EdConwaySky We had energy spikes in the past, but the energy companies are using every excuse to increase bills, Ofgem are a joke, they gave companies a hand to do what they want, oh you can only charge the capped price, cheers Ofgem we will, oh and thanks for letting us increase quarterly

EdConwaySky We need to look to Norway or Sweden if France can't help us so these energy bill's don't spiral out of control .

EdConwaySky IT IS NOT UNPRECEDENTED!!! Everyone has known since MARCH. MartinSLewis has been trying to warn and prepare people since his shows back in March. What a tool.

EdConwaySky amount stated is likely bare minimum usage , some people will work 3 months just to pay energy costs .... The UK no longer works for its people and that is down to the disgusting, short sighted and hypocrites called politicians
