This is not happening anywhere else in Europe. Price increase in France was 4%. They are also affected by the Ukraine situation so that’s not the reason for our prices going up 80%. And more in January. This is blatant profiteering by the energy companies.

The price cap has not been hiked to £3,549 a year. The price cap is set by kWh. That is the price an average household will be paying per year at the new price cap. So 49.9% of households will be paying less than that. But that doesn't make a sensationalist headline.

There was no war in Ukraine in 2021 as stated in the article.

British Gas to donate 10% of profits to help cut billsBritain's biggest energy supplier will offer more grants for those in need, amid rising prices. It’s something but those just over the fuel poverty line, not eligible for any help, will get absolutely whacked out. Why are they 'donating'? Charity is just a failure of government - it's self evident that they have the capital and recognise the problem. Their energy prices should just be more reasonable in the first place Not enough I’m afraid. I’m sure they could go to 15% and still be comfortable in profits
