Environment and Climate Change Canada has said officials aren’t testing for nitrates.

Cockrill has said the samples were taken from a private dugout. According to Environment Canada, they were taken “very near” a highway.

“If a federal scientist inadvertently encroached on private land without permission, this matter that can surely be handled in a mature and informed manner,” he stated.Cockrill said he learned of the allegations from that farmer, Levi Wood, on Aug. 17. Discussions between government officials then began on how the province was going to respond.

Wood tweeted the incident on Aug. 19, stating employees took water samples from his dugout and told him they were checking for pesticides.“I know the timing is interesting to people, but the real issue here is we felt it was important to respond to this issue,” he said. “The issue really at hand here is the trust between Saskatchewan producers and the federal government.”

In his letter, Guilbeault said federal officials “look forward to working with Saskatchewan officials to better understand recent Order in Council rule changes, so that the important work of scientific water data analysis can continue.”

Can Guilbeault explains why it is mainly western provinces that are expected to bear the brunt of emissions reductions? What are Ontario and Quebec industries doing?

They may have been doing this for the last 50 years, but it’s irrelevant. Knock on the door and let the owner know what you’re doing on their property. Why is common courtesy that hard?
