I also tracked it all with the MyFitnessPal app, which was eye opening to see all of the calories I consumed.This didn’t happen all at once. I had spent years trying crash diets. They never worked because it was such a culture shock that was too much change at one time. It wasn’t sustainable. I started by taking baby steps. I examined my lifestyle and picked three to four things that weren’t healthy that I could do without.

In 2019, I had the honor of competing for Team USA at the ITU World Championships in Spain. I’m not a great runner, but my swimming made me competitive. It was such an adventure. For anyone who wants to go on a similar journey, my advice is to not make it private. Tell people what you’re doing. It’s a great way to hold yourself accountable, and you’ll never know who you’ll inspire to do the same.
