Despite problems with Tesla's vehicles, customers think highly of the electric-car brand for emotional reasons, according to a survey by J.D. Power

A month ago, Tesla Inc. scored the worst among other automotive brands in an influential study that tracked the quality of new cars. Now, a second part of the survey of those same customers shows that despite problems, they think highly of the electric-car brand for other, more emotional reasons.

The paradox is on display in the new Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout Study by J.D. Power, which measures owners’ emotional attachment and excitement for their new vehicles. The results underscore the challenges auto makers...

so in other words youre paying top dollar for junk?

In the car world, historically quality comes with experience. Let’s see what the next generation can do. Tesla nikolabadger

When you know you know your being scammed

Smartphones on 4 wheels. Tesla = no attention to details. Me love me a German or Japanese or Korean. Just my2 cents

They sound like Corvette owners.

I have zero “emotional attachment” to Tesla and despise “virtue signaling” but I love my Tesla because it is ridiculously fast.

Some people buy the passion of the company. Not just the product. I think it is more that Tesla is doing great things to change the world.

Why is so negative on Tesla. Despite allllll the problems. 🙄

I think the best part of Tesla is watching videos of those kids and mothers in Africa searching in the mines for the materials for their high energy batteries. But, owners should not feel any guilt because there are no enforcement of labor laws in those countries. It's ok then.

Yeah it’s called virtue signaling.

I’ve had no problems with my 2020 Model X. I’ve had a lot of nice cars and the Model X is by far my favorite. Full self driving works great and takes huge stress off you in heavy traffic. Worth every penny and then some.

elonmusk what do you think?

Love aHll Your Meney..........

I think consumers are now realizing the need to be more eco-friendly, and are willing to associate with brands that push sustainability and will even be willing to pay a premium for that. Hence, the 'Emotional attachment'

I do own a Tesla x and am very impressed and enjoy it immensely. It’s fun , however I would concur that even though it’s great it lacks some of the attention to detail that car makers such as Mercedes enjoys .

What emotional reasons might those be? The self-righteousness of the left perhaps?

Like Apple . You will only be able to use their parts , repair shops and then they will close them all . Good for taking you for a ———- ride . Now off to Texas - I see another ENRON coming.

Stupid eco buyers raping rare earth minerals that run electric cars to show how much they care about the environment.

Its popularity is very similar to Trumps popularity with his LIES.

Tesla and Elon musk is the common man’s hero, he challenged the combustible engine and won. Eat it

The emotional connection comes from the fact that Tesla has been skating uphill since the inception of the company, all the auto makers have poked fun of him and lobbied against him from the very beginning

That’s because people think that the news outlets are lying and are inherently biased against Tesla and have been from the beginning.

Ford revolutionalized the industry so almost anyone can afford a car? Tesla is not even close to that mark yet!

No doubts that Tesla has an emotional bond with its customers. Otherwise why buying a limited range car which is not at all zero emissions (but just delocalised emissions)?m at a higher price? Great branding job at Tesla!!!

What Tesla problems? Soft wear updates often to give me a new car every month, that’s just for starters..... unreal car...

Folks will stick with it only till the alternatives show up.

meaning, it's a toy

Cult Quality 🤔

Best car I've ever owned by a HUGE margin. It's like when iPhones came out and other people were still using flip phones. No comparison.

Thanks for the psyche article. Have WSJ ever taken a hard look in an article on whether cars that get their energy from an electric power plant (mostly fossil fuels) are more environmentally friendly than cars that burn the fossil fuels in the vehicle? I assume they are.

To be clear, the JDPower “Initial Quality” survey includes things like complaints about connecting Bluetooth or using the navigation system. These are not, IMO, quality issues. This survey points to design and usability problems too. It’s a flawed study.

sunk cost fallacy?

The cars suck, but the stock doesn't. At least, not yet.
