‘I plead with you, as federalists, to understand the national unity implications of this,’ he told the Senate energy committee

OTTAWA — Alberta Premier Jason Kenney offered a spirited rebuke of the federal government’s sweeping energy reforms on Thursday, giving voice to deep resentments in the province over a decades-long pipeline bottleneck.

Kenney later told reporters that separatist sentiments in Alberta are on the rise as a direct result of overly onerous federal climate change policies. He cited an Angus Reid poll that said half of Albertans surveyed saw separation as a “real possibility” amid the province’s pipeline woes. But Kenney said he would trigger a referendum on equalization payments to other provinces if C-69 passes in its current form.

Environmental groups and a number of senators have argued that opposition to the bill is overwrought, bred by a failure in the oil and gas industry to accept changing attitudes toward climate change. The mining and hydro industries, among others, are broadly more supportive of the bill. “These are exclusively within Alberta territory and they relate to the production of natural resources,” Kenney said. “There is no rational person who can see, under section 92, a federal interest to regulate that. It would be a blatant violation of the Constitution.”

...is Kenney an agitator...or just an alarmist...?

C-69 is a farce. Enviro Minister has final say. cathmckenna or a CON are fossil fuel/mining/forestry shills that defund enforcement allowing illegal practices. Went too far-approved GE salmon, high Glyphosates/Bisphenols poisoning food & water. ElizabethMay theJagmeetSingh

Kenney was correct when he said to the senators that if there was 50% support for separation in Quebec the federal government wouldn’t be introducing legislation that negatively targets and impacts the aerospace sector.

Holy shit, someone with a backbone! Get it done, jkenney !! You da man!
