Chinese car maker starts a petrol and electric SUV, with three other cars planned in the next two years

Chinese car manufacturer Chery has officially confirmed the Omoda brand will launch in the UK, opening pre-reservations for its first two models with plans underway to rapidly expand its UK dealer network. The brand will launch in the UK with two initial SUVs: the petrol-powered Omoda 5, and the Omoda E5, which is its electric equivalent. Omoda says the first UK-specification 5 has left the production line at the brand’s factory in Wuhu.

When it arrives in the UK, the Omoda E5 will likely rival other electric SUVs such as the KGM Korrando EV and the MG ZS EV. Prices for both cars will be revealed imminently, with the first 5 and E5 deliveries expected in August this year. For now, we can speculate the petrol 5 will start from around £25,000, while the EV will be slightly more expensive at around £33,500. Both SUVs have been awarded a five-star EuroNCAP rating.
