The average household will save £122 a year in July

A typical household’s energy bill will fall by £122 a year in July thanks to the new price cap. Calculate how much your bill will drop by using our energy price calculator.

The cap sets the maximum price for a unit of energy, not for the total bill, so households could pay more. The new cap sees unit prices for both gas and electricity fall by 9%.Standing charges have also fallen, but by less than 1%. You can calculate the changes to your bill by using our calculator below. Simply enter the amount you currently pay for both gas and electricity and it will calculate a new estimate based on the new cap.

Will Owen, energy expert at Uswitch.com, comments: “A 7% drop in the energy price cap from July to September is good news for the 28 million households on standard tariffs, who should see bills coming down.
