Nationals leader David Littleproud had labelled the Albanese Government's push for reduced greenhouse emissions by 2030 as a 'folly' as he defended the Coalition's proposal for nuclear energy plants.

Nationals leader David Littleproud defends nuclear plans, says it is a 'folly' for Labor to set 2030 emissions reduction targets

"What we have seen across the world is that countries are moving more and more to have nuclear in the mix because it gets prices down, keeps the lights on, and, of course, it's zero emissions," he told Sky News Australia. The Energy Minister claimed other nations' efforts to obtain nuclear power took as long as 19 years, with considerable blowouts in cost and delivery of the power source.

Mr Bowen said Mr O'Brien was"dreaming" if he believed nuclear power was attainable in a decade and insisted Australia was better served pursuing a transition to renewables than spending time and resources attempting to create a new industry. Picture: NCA NewsWire/Martin Ollman A key sticking point in the debate of nuclear is the cost for Australian taxpayers, with the government and opposition both arguing their energy plans are better value for households.

"We've come to a critical juncture where this government has brought its net zero by 2050 targets to 2030 and it's putting a whole lot of pressure on our energy grid, but also Australians' wallets," Mr Littleproud said.
