TORONTO — Canada's main stock index edged lower in late-morning trading, weighed down by losses in energy and financial stocks, while U.S. stock markets moved higher.In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 220.38 points at 33,156.79. The S&P 500 index was up 26.09 points at 4,243.13, while the Nasdaq composite was up 91.44 points at 13,109.77.The December crude contract was down US$1.62 at US$83.87 per barrel and the December natural gas contract was up a penny at US$3.
The December gold contract was down US$14.80 at US$1,973.00 an ounce and the December copper contract was up four cents at US$3.63 a pound.The Canadian Press
