Researchers claim to put a number on what Exxon knew about temperature rise as early as the 1970s.

By Georgina RannardOne of the world's largest oil companies accurately forecast how climate change would cause global temperature to rise as long ago as the 1970s, researchers claim.

Corporations including ExxonMobil have made billions from selling fossil fuels that release emissions that scientists, governments and the UN say cause global warming. "It really underscores the stark hypocrisy of ExxonMobil leadership, who knew that their own scientists were doing this very high quality modelling work and had access to that privileged information while telling the rest of us that climate models were bunk," Naomi Oreskes, professor of the history of science at Harvard University, told BBC News.

So altruistic of them.

There are movies from the 30s and the 40s with people talking about climate change

This is old, old news about the climatecriminals at Exxon, that the BBC is finally catching up on. Better late than never I suppose. Perhaps this is a sea change in their editorial policy towards the ClimateEmergency ?

It's not difficult predicting something that has happened for 1000s of years.

Those of us at university in the mid to late 1970s doing science degrees were aware of man-made CO2 emissions being capable of ‘climate modification,’ but the effect was expected to be small. Then along came computer models to create unfounded apocalyptic rhetoric.

1970s? Exxon? Decades behind the curve!

What temperature rise? Global temperature has risen about 1.5 degree in 150 years and most likely a natural fluctuation. If u repeat the lie again and again people just accept it like sheep. Add a dramatic photo and their heads explode.

And Thatcher could have invested in green energy but didn't

Exxon knew.

Bollocks

More crap from the woke anti British bbc

'This issue has come up several times in recent years and, in each case, our answer is the same: those who talk about how 'Exxon Knew' are wrong in their conclusions,' the company told BBC News.

Plugging the documentary thats been on the iplayer for 6 months? Great watch btw but this isn't new news.

I don’t know if you’ve seen the document on the BBC that uncovered this months ago?!?

And we still need oil and for many years to come.

Scientists also predicted an ice age in the 70s too

'We're not going to let the extinction of humanity stop us from getting rich are we?'
