The basic funding that schools get in Northern Ireland has been cut following the Stormont budget, robbeorn reports:

Chris Heaton-Harris said that although education would receive a cash increase of £286m compared to last year's baseline, the department would need to take action to live within its budget

They face a cut of about 0.5% in their basic budget, but will receive extra money to pay specifically for rising energy costs and already agreed incremental pay awards for teaching and non-teaching staff. That means that overall the amount of money each school will have to spend in 2022-23 will go up by about 3%.There is also stalemate over a wider pay deal for teachers to cover the years 2021 to 2023 after"This may require some difficult decisions in the current financial year, and indeed next year which is likely to be equally as challenging," he wrote.

robbeorn 30% of kids drop out before finishing 2nd level education. As always, the most disadvantaged will suffer & cycles of poverty perpetuated. Dreadful decision.

robbeorn Once again the DUP duck the hard decisions….’look, it was the bad boys in Westminster who did it’

robbeorn Cut education, cut future prospects, keep them controlled so they can carry on dictating society. Thats all it is. There is money, its just in their pockets and investments

robbeorn Dup seating on their hands while northern Ireland fails a part .. makes you proud to be British..

robbeorn 🤬🤬🤬

robbeorn So we the parents will pick up the tab again...cost of living continues...duponline education minister who didn't take her post...

robbeorn Why is it that one of the first places that DENI and EANI look for savings is on Special Education services?

robbeorn This is ridiculous

robbeorn What Stormont budget was that?

robbeorn Our representatives are not even sitting in stormont ffs

robbeorn And these lot are actually rewarded for what exactly Education. Failed leadership and Brexit

robbeorn Twelve years of underfunding will mean services can no longer be sustained. The EA cannot deliver on its statutory responsibilities without the appropriate funding; nor can schools meet children's needs. This is directly related to a policy of underinvestment.

robbeorn What on earth could be more valuable? For flip sake lads
