Former prime minister Tony Abbott says he fears the energy crisis “will get much worse” in Australia.

“All of us want to reduce emissions as far and as fast as we can but not if it means the lights going out and not if it means massive job losses, and the continued export of our manufacturing industries to less fastidious countries overseas such as our great strategic rival China,” Mr Abbott told Sky News host Chris Kenny.

“I really think the government is creating a dreadful problem for itself, we can see in Europe before our very eyes what happens if you over rely on unreliable, intermittent renewable power. “They’re franticly trying to get more gas, they’re franticly trying to reopen coal-fired power stations, and yet we’re desperate to shut down the coal-fired power stations that currently give us 60 per cent of our power with no substitute.Read More
