'We have to be super careful in terms of what we do that what we do will hold in court. Otherwise we're wasting time, and precious time to fight climate change'

The agreement from the UN conference in Scotland last year called for countries to move faster to get rid of coal-fired electricity plants that are not abated with technology to capture emissions. It was the first time a COP pact included any reference to reducing any kind of fossil fuel use.Sign up to receive the daily top stories from the National Post, a division of Postmedia Network Inc.By clicking on the sign up button you consent to receive the above newsletter from Postmedia Network Inc.

During a one-on-one conversation in Egypt Thursday with Climate Action Network Canada’s national policy Caroline Brouillette, Guilbeault said Canada’s focus is on regulations and policies that curb greenhouse gas emissions, like regulations on how much methane oil and gas producers can emit. Guilbeault said Canada hasn’t been challenged over plans to phase out coal, but is on almost everything it does on the oil and gas side.

She added that Canada’s position is strange, considering the agreement would likely have included the same abatement provision as coal. While Levin doesn’t back carbon capture and storage as a serious solution to cutting emissions, she said even that would be “a clear signal that, according to the U.S. and others, the age of oil and gas is over.”

It's amazing when a right wing pro oil and gas woman becomes the premier of Alberta. The weak Trudeau Liberals run scared.Premier Smith will do exactly as Quebec had been allowed to do, 4 decades. Saskatchewan is also doing going to follow along.Who's next? To hell with Trudeau

Hmm...so they are actually adults afterall

The last three years have thought us that so-called experts, scientists and power-tripping politicians are basically ruining the world.

Reality check on stopping oil and gas

Can this dude smile, or does he always have to look like the villain who was recently busted out of a foreign prison, and given a new suit and hotel bathroom haircut before their next pursuit?

Speaking of illegal protesters, Canada’s own environmental fringe minority with unacceptable views.

😲 Pinch me! MUST be a misprint!

DID HE HAVE AN EPIPHANY?

First step into reality for him 🤔

Cons be all, WUT?

Cons will be furious. How will they spin this now to say Trudeau is anti oil?

Smart decision. Only those who lack intelligence want to look like Europe begging for fossil fuels.

No, they just want to cut it back so most Canadians will not be able to afford it or the thousands of goods & services gas & oil supports.

The kiss of death

It doesn't matter what this government does at this point. The Trudeau Liberals have burned every possible bridge to my vote or even basic respect.

ENERGY IS LIFE.

It’s because they realized that our O&G could have prevented a war, could provide our western allies with energy security, can provide 3rd world with energy security, and is the basis of life on earth. ENERGY IS LIFE.

Becuase you cant and its been reported that gas and oil will always play huge roll

FOAD Guilbeault.

You can’t have bread without butter, no?

Terrible flop on climate policy. We should have agreed to the carbon capture alternative that the US has.

Whoops

Let's make that shift into building more CANDU and developing next gen fuels like ANEEL

Saudi Arabia first....

Oh, That statement has to sting.

I wonder if it hurts Mr. Guilbeault's soul to not be able to declare an end to O&G. He's spent a career advocating for just that.

canada-backed oil cartels only sell cdn oil abroad for $$$ and offer nothing (not even oil) for actual citizens

But Trudeau hates oil and gas and wants alberta to die, how can this be? was it all a lie?

cselley What?

Wack. We dead

Oil and gas is in the public interest. Lots of good jobs, lots of prosperity . If there was something better it would dominate the market and governments wouldn't have to mandate it. Like masks, if we are free to choose we choose freedom over mandates and safetyism.

I love the photo you chose NP! He looks exactly like a deer caught in the headlights and the train coming straight at him! Hmm... was that just a coincidence or was it wishful thinking?

Lol, wait, secretly they will.........

I’m pleasantly shocked and highly suspicious at the same time

First smart decision I've heard of by the liberals since they took office. However, they certainly don't help the industry either.

Good

💩

He must be fuming inside for having to say that

Because absolutely nothing gets built or moves without fossil fuels. Grow up.

No need to. The writing is on the wall.

acoyne Of course it won't, since Canadians prefer to vote for political parties that prioritize the fossil fuel industry and an ideology of unlimited growth over the continuation of life on Earth.

Wow. Any chance he’s figured out that oil and gas is also used as feedstock for numerous other critical, everyday products? That it’s not all combusted as fuel?

He must have vomited after saying that. Or, could it be, realism?

Yet.

‘We are close to a historic agreement’: Guilbeault hopes to leave COP27 on a high noteIn an exclusive interview, the environment minister told iPolitics that Canada and its rich peers will do better at compensating poorer countries that are most at risk from climate change — and why oil and gas companies won&8217;t be asked to foot the bill. China, US, India and Russia amount for over 50% of the worlds emissions. Canada amount to 1-2%. This is nothing more than another globalist money laundering and fraudulent climate scam like ESG
