JOHANNESBURG - Energy Minister Gwede Mantashe says the country's renewable energy transition shouldn't come at the expense of coal mining communities.President Cyril Ramaphosa said last week that he had approached the US government for a loan as part of government's multi-trillion rand plan to move the country to a zero-carbon economy."That transition should not be insensitive to people in communities.
You can't just talk of transition and ignore that the tender was continuously in Mpumalanga in the coal belt and if you just talk of the transition you can't just switch of that coal and think that things will be normal. There will be ghost towns...starving families and the transition must talk to those issues.""So it's just not clean but its also energy poverty that...manifests in many ways.
I think ANC must look for young ministers, all the madalas and gogos must be given package and leave.
Im 100% behind Mantashe this time. This renewable energy lunacy is designed to collapse the sovereignty of nations and its unsustainable. Germany and my other European nations learned it the hard way. Knowing these ellites, they will use SA as an entry point into Africa.
It must affect them... No more eskom free ride
Speaking sense.
Only people affected will be the coal mafia. Transition when done ethically (and not by ANC) includes plans to upskill and re-employ those communities in new technology. Mantashe's fear mongering outdated narrative cannot keep us in the dark ages.
Mining towns come and go. Has been happening for ages. Will happen again.
He’s paid handsomely mind you he was a socialist but due to income he’s become a real vulture capitalist. Not forgetting his dry comments on other people he found in ANC.
Was he drunk when he said this?
Mantashe is dumb actually
