'Urgent' need for Eamon Ryan at climate committee - SF

Sinn Féin has called on the Minister for the Environment to urgently appear before the Oireachtas Climate Committee amid concerns of energy blackouts this winter.

The Government has commissioned a review of energy supply, prompted by widespread concerns over blackouts this winter. The potential shortage of energy supply has"nothing to do with the war in Ukraine", the former head of ESB International has said.

Answering questions is not enough. Government must ensure energy supply security. It is their job and responsibility.

Other countries have gas in storage but we don't. When ER was asked on RTÉ about building liquid natural gas tanks he repeatedly said that we must get away from fossil fuels. But emergencies call for drastic solutions, including policy changes. Just repeating mantras is no good.

According to the ESB the vulnerability of supply was highlighted to the then Minister EamonRyan in 2008, so not a surprise to anyone michealmartin

Maybe somebody,ANYBODY could ask him what made him think that having an energy 'supply' that is 100% dependent on the weather was a good idea? .The Germans lied about exactly the same thing ,covering up their fantasy with Russian gas & oil .That's working out well .
