Should our five biggest energy firms be nationalised?

Green Party of England and Wales co-leader Carla Denyer said: "We are seeing nationwide anxiety about the prospect of unpayable energy bills this winter.

"This experiment with an energy supply market has failed. Only the government can intervene at the scale required to avoid a catastrophe this winter."The party wants the big five energy supply companies - British Gas, EDF Energy, E.ON Next, OVO and Scottish Power - to be nationalised, as also proposed by the Trades Union Congress .

The TUC, in its plan for nationalisation, has estimated the cost of buying out the companies' current shareholdersSir Keir has ruled out nationalisation, arguing that compensating shareholders would be a waste of public money, and it would not bring inflation down, as he claims his plan would., Gordon Brown called on Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak, who are vying to be the next prime minister, to halt further increases in the price cap.

Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak have both rejected nationalisation, as well as Sir Keir Starmer's plan to freeze energy prices.

Yes! Private by energy companies are milking the UK nation for their own personal gain, and we need to cease being so very generous and cringingly foolish.

It's the Greens. Safe to ignore. Their electoral peak was 1987.

Waste of time without the wholesale supply companies and distribution systems as well. Half of distribution has just been sold to Australian Company!!

No, never. I'm old and remember well how inefficient and corrupt they were.

Yes, if the economy to work, we need to be able spend our earnings, in shops, market, holiday, etc not on energy that we all need to live

Seems misguided to put these titans of industry back in the hands of the state. The frieght train of capitalism only moves forward, Tally Ho!

Seems to have no knowledge of the structure and history of the various sections of 'Energy' Industries globally let alone just in EU or UK.

You'll have them shaking in their boot's.
