"In China, where most of the aluminium is currently produced, it's a little bit harder to do that because all their solar farms are way out west," Professor Lennon said. Professor Lennon said Australia has four smelters, including one in Tasmania which is hydro-powered and produces less than five tonnes of emissions per tonne of aluminium.

A bit like the 'single use' plastic bag argument. I used to use my old shopping bags for rubbish. When they banned them I had to buy plastic bags for my rubbish. I then had to purchase bags made of plastic to carry my groceries... which fall apart and end up in the rubbish.

A solar panel cannot produce enough energy to make a solar panel and the same with wind turbines. Solar panels are starting to die, leaving behind toxic waste. They are complex pieces of technology that become big, bulky sheets of electronic waste at the end of their lives.
