Feds, Ontario investing millions in Ford's Oakville plant to produce electric vehicles, batteries

Trudeau and Unifor president Jerry Dias are to hook up with them virtually from the company’s connectivity and innovation centre in the Ottawa suburb of Kanata.

From the Liberal government’s perspective, the investment will not only help secure good-paying jobs in the struggling auto sector. It hopes it will give Canada an edge in the global competition to meet what’s expected to be explosive demand for electric vehicles in the near future.

Expect much higher gas taxes to drive people to buy these electric cars that don’t sell on their own merit. If Liberals are correct that majority of Canadians are concerned on climate why the need for subsidies and taxes to force behaviour ?

garden_nome1 Once in operation, electric cars certainly reduce your carbon footprint, but making the lithium-ion batteries could emit 74% more CO2 than for conventional cars.
