Sedans News

Tesla’s two cars differ in size and price, but what other features distinguish these electric sedans?

start with size and cost, as the Model 3 is a compact starting in the high-$30,000 range and the Model S is a full-size car starting in the mid-$70,000 range. In terms of tech and safety features, Tesla tends to offer just about everything on both models as standard, with the main points to consider for the larger Model S being the additional performance and spaciousness, though the Model 3 is no slouch.

The Tesla Model S was last tested by NHTSA in 2013 , and it aced the crash tests, with a five-star rating in all crash test categories. Likewise, the Model 3 received a straight five-star rating from NHTSA, as well.IIHS gave the Model S a straight run of Good ratings for the major crash tests in 2017 , and as you might expect the 2022 Tesla Model 3 got the same crash ratings. It’s safe to say that both of these cars perform very well in crash tests, so this is a draw.

As far as range goes, EPA figures for electric vehicles are optimistic partially because they represent a combined city/highway loop rather than the all-highway cruising that real-world road trips are made of. Air resistance builds up at highway speed, and with it the amount of energy needed to maintain that speed.

. The i4 doesn’t impress with range but does impress with its hatchback practicality, the Ioniq 6 handles and rides well but wears divisive styling, while the Polestar just got a deceptively massive refresh that might make it a top choice. The cheapest Tesla car available is the Model 3, and it appears that will remain the case for some time., but such a vehicle likely won’t arrive this decade—if at all.
