MANILA, Philippines: The Manila Electric Company announced on Thursday an increase in power rates in February.According to the power distribution company, the adjustment of P0.5738 per kiloWatt hour for this month brings the overall rate for a typical household to P11.9168 per kWh from P11.3430 per kWh in January.
Meralco said that for residential customers consuming 200 kWh, the adjustment is equivalent to an increase of about P115 in their electric bill.Meralco said the increase was due to the higher generation charge of P7.1020 per kWh in February from P6.6468 per kWh in January, resulting from an increase in power costs by the Independent Power Producers and Power Supply Agreements .
