Voters in Fairport received mailers that claimed the village's electric utility was at risk of dissolution. The village said the mailers had "no truth." not to fall for a mailer making the rounds that claimed the utility is at risk of being dissolved.
The mailers appeared to endorse Monroe County Legislator Sean Delehanty, a Republican running for re-election in a district that includes Fairport. The mailers, which include a note indicating they were paid for by the New York State Republican Committee, accuse Delehanty's opponent, Democrat Lystra McCoy, of "pushing an extreme agenda" that includes replacing Fairport Electric with a county-wide public utility."In reality, my goal is quite the opposite," McCoy wrote. "I believe that every Monroe County resident should have access to a public utility similar to Fairport Electric.
It is disappointing to see my opponent, Lystra McCoy, continue to try to confuse this community about her push for a Countywide Public Utility using a game of semantics. If she wants a Countywide Public Utility, as she states, Fairport would have to be included; if Fairport is not included, then she doesn't want a truly Countywide Public Utility - in either case, Fairport Electric would undoubtedly be negatively impacted and she should make her position clearer to voters.
