Power bills look set to rise for many Australians from July — but that all depends on where you live and which energy provider you're with.

The federal government does not set the default market offer.

However, Ms Reeve said the federal government's caps on the price of gas and coal have had an impact — so extending them might help."And, in fact, those prices started to moderate as soon as the government started to talk about putting the cap in. "So really from October of last year, when they made that announcement in the budget, we started to see the wholesale prices going down."And the other thing is that a number of retailers would have written contracts with generators before the government made that intervention, and so they've contracted to buy energy at the high prices and that has to be factored into the default market offer."Ms Reeve has these three key tips for anyone worried about their power bills.

because of ABC, 20 years of 'climate change' BS

Maybe 🤔 all states do what labor did for ACT !!

‘Power bills look set to rise for many Australians from the start of July’. Time for the AEMO to step-up and drag the recalcitrant private energy suppliers into a fair share for Australians. If not, nationalise here private companies.

Frigging every house has solar . Why do they need to raise prices. It's bullshit

maybe can question Angus Taylor about this little nugget.

Instead of talking about subsidizing new foreign investment(with very lax & long contracts)or rugging up and doing star jumps on a cold day; we should be talking about these bigger issues: the chain of title that links to existing gas resources in use: Whose gas is that? Swedens?

You remember ages ago? When we still owned the majority of electricity infrastructure (in SA at least) (ahhh ESTA, We Miss You) You remember some of us screaming that it's a breach of trust to let people buy up the thing we need to to keep our food cold? It's not a retail product

The Government was trusted with Our mutual combined rights to make rules and regulations regarding electricity; they subcontracted those duties and rights out to private companies; If those companies breach the public trust by price gouging are the gov not in breach of our trust?

'The Government Should honor it's contracts'. Yes it should, but the first and foremost contract it should honor, is with the Australian People; And you re-negotiate that contract all the time after deciding the current contract isn't fair. (next tweet relates)

Because Aussies have no representation in OZ ,politicians all work for lobbyists.

Because of stupid and useless climate policies

Dear ABC, Based on your constant activism against 24/7 dispatchable coal fired power you are unfortunately not qualified to comment on any matters regarding electricity. Regards, The Australian Taxpayer.

Unfortunately people will need to feel pain in their hip pocket to see what’s going on with the green scam and release them from the climate cult…

When politicians say they’ll cut your electricity bill, you better be prepared for it to go up.

More Climate Change effect! It's what happens when ppl decide to move to renewables & close power stations & lessen Gas projects!

Duh! we paying for the West's war in Ukraine.

Perplexed why essay is going up 22%. ABC have written articles saying essay is one of the, if not the, most reliant on renewable energy in the world. We have been told that renewables would reduce energy prices. Was this advice incorrect?

They should be very careful...at this rate it will be cheaper to pay off a solar system than the hiked bills

Turn everything off?

Highest in Victoria of course!!

The worlds gone mad that’s why. How can everything soar. I just got a 2% increase in my work award which means nothing as everything else increases so much.

Apart from shivering and sweating it out. Nothing. Same goes for rental accommodation.👎

TLDR because the energy regulator said the power companies can gouge you some more. EnergyCapturedGov

Going to be ‘very tough’ for Australians: Power prices to hike upOne Big Switch Campaign Director Joel Gibson says the 20 per cent increase in energy prices projected for July is going to be “very tough” for Australian households and businesses. A “cumulative impact” is also present due to an average increase last year of 20 per cent as well, said Mr Gibson. “We are seeing a little bit of extra relief from state and federal governments to try and help especially the most vulnerable households to deal with that.” *buy a diesel generator. Problem solved. When you're ready, Labor, we'd like our cheaper power bills! 30% not 20%

Rise in Australians’ energy bills later this year ‘unacceptable’ from LaborThe price rise in Australians’ power bills expected in July is “unacceptable” from the Albanese government who promised a reduction in electricity prices, according to Shadow Finance Minister Jane Hume. Power bills will rise this winter under the Australian Energy Regulator's draft determination to the nation's electricity price safety net. “This is affecting the entire east coast, and this is unacceptable from a government that promised a reduction in power prices of $275,” Ms Hume said. “Now Australians – they're going to pay for this, this winter. “I fear for those older Australians or those on low incomes that will simply have to turn off the heater during winter because they can’t afford the energy bills – that's the human cost to Labor’s failure to manage the energy market.” It wasn’t a core promise. Labor promised cuts but everything going up can . Labor can never tell the truth and are not capable of handling anything. Woke non sustainable and non reliant power sources (wind/solar) will never replace reliable and clean (nuclear) energy. They were lying and bills would and will not reduce unless we focus on nuclear.
