Wilson’s ASX-listed WAM Strategic Value Ltd has picked up an AGL stake, and is said to be leaning towards voting against the company’s mooted demerger next month.
It is not known how many AGL shares are in Wilson’s fund, which he purposefully has trading under the ticker “WAR”.But given it had $226.7 million in assets at March 31, the stake’s unlikely to be enough to put the frights in AGL and its bankers at Macquarie Capital who helped design the demerger. AGL also has a big retail investor base. The utility had 148,145 shareholders at the time of its annual report last year, mostly in the less than 5000 shares category. While their parcels may be relatively small, together, the less than 5000 crew had 24.2 per cent of the vote.at loggerheads with its biggest shareholder, Mike Cannon-Brookes
