I write this column on the last full day of spring, on the third day of an extreme heat wave. Each day, I got several texts alerting me to “Extreme Heat.” The Star-Ledger’s front-page headline, “How extreme heat can affect your commuter train,” explained how Amtrak had overhead wire problems, which set off a chain reaction delaying other transit systems. And a major work widely documented how changing climates affect our brains.

But, sadly, the climate deniers are out in full force.
