Jeffrey Smyrychynski, 54, of Oakland, unlawfully claims he was fired from his position as assistant treasurer for Upper Saddle River.

A former assistant treasurer for Upper Saddle River in Bergen County has filed a lawsuit against the borough claiming he was wrongfully terminated and replaced with a younger worker after he questioned a vendor’s invoices.

Jeffrey Smyrychynski, 54, of Oakland, states in court papers that UGI Energy Services, of Wyomissing, Pennsylvania, submitted bills and invoices to the prior chief financial officer, who no longer works for the borough. The bills were assigned to Smyrychynski in the spring of 2023 for processing ,but contained no paperwork or documentation to support payment of the bills, according to the suit, filed June 5 in Superior Court of Bergen County.Man charged with killing woman, critically injuring another in Carteret shooting
