Honda Motor Co.’s $15-billion investment in its Canadian electric-vehicle supply chain will include a battery separator plant in Port Colborne, Ont., the first facility of its kind in Canada.
Company President Koshiro Kudo said the greenfield investment will support North America’s clean-vehicle transition. Asahi and Honda first disclosed plans for the Ontario plant April 25, without sharing the location or what stake each company will hold in the partnership. The Asahi plant, which is expected to cost 180 billion yen, or $1.6 billion at current exchange rates, will receive a portion of the $5 billion in joint federal and provincial backing for Honda’s supply chain investment. Neither government broke out how much of that total it will receive.
