A conference aimed at encouraging the banking sector to develop funding for tripling nuclear generation capacity by 2050 did not meet expectations. This has led to a push for the formation of the International Bank for Nuclear Infrastructure (IBNI).

A CONFERENCE hosted by the International Atomic Energy Agency in Brussels last month was supposed to bring together national-level nuclear energy planners and the banking sector to encourage the latter to develop the estimated $5 trillion in funding needed to meet the goal of tripling nuclear generation capacity by 2050. As I explained in Thursday's column , the conference was successful with the 'bringing together' part.

concept was first presented by the head of the International Bank for Nuclear Infrastructure-Implementation Organization Strategic Advisory Group in an article published in Nuclear Engineering International in July 2023 and reprinted in a somewhat shortened version in NS Energy last month, just before the Brussels conference started.
