The coal mining town, 200km south of Perth, is one of seven sites identified by the Coalition as the potential site for a nuclear reactor under Peter Dutton's nuclear energy proposal.

There are concerns in the WA community of Collie about plans to build a nuclear power plant in the town. The WA government is phasing out coal by 2030 but nuclear power won't be established by then.

"We're talking about things like buffer zones, and the development of industrial opportunities for Collie," Mr Miffling said."People will always have an opinion," he said. Given the sudden nature of Mr Dutton's announcement, he conceded the community had plenty of questions."I have made a commitment to the community of Collie to keep the dialogue going for as long as required."
