Penfield's Arbor Day events on Saturday, April 20, 2024, will include a free shrub give-a-way, an electric vehicle show, a pledge to conserve monarch butterflies and an update on Penfield’s effort to plant more trees. The Arbor Day Celebration is taking place from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and will highlight the importance of native trees, plants, and pollinators. The event will feature a free native shrub giveaway. Featured shrubs include the Northern Bayberry and the Red Osier Dogwood .
The EV show, which has become a springtime staple in Penfield, runs from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and will feature cars from private owners, dealers, and New York State Electric Auto Association members. The members will be on hand to answer any questions. Town Supervisor Jeff Leenhouts is set to issue a proclamation during the day's events to support the Penfield's pursuit of, and the sustainability benefits of EVs. Supervisor Leenhouts will also acknowledge the recent planting of two approximately six-foot-tall native trees at the Community Center that will enhance natural shading, mitigate stormwater, and capture greenhouse gases.
