Energy Minister defends use of separate jets for he and PM making same trip

Chris Bowen and Albanese travelled to Scone on Thursday to promote the government's $1 billion Solar Sunshot scheme at Lidell Power Station in Muswellbrook.shared a photo of two RAAF jets parked on the tarmac at Scone Airport. The Minister for Energy has defended the use of two separate Royal Australian Air Force jets to fly him and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese into the NSW Hunter this week.

When asked about the use of two planes, a spokesperson for Albanese's office said: "The Prime Minister and Ministers were excited to be back in the Hunter region to make a $1b announcement which brings us another step closer to ensuring the regions that have always powered Australia aren't left behind."

"The Prime Minister has a large jet available to him, that would normally be what we would take," he told reporters. "We limited the number of staff and even then that was the Air Force advice of the most efficient way getting there," he said.
