Over $11 million has been allocated by Gov. Kay Ivey to increase electric vehicle charging stations on Alabama’s interstates.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -

13 of the grants will be used to provide EV charging stations at gas stations off the state’s interstates. Another grant will be given to to Bevill State Community College in Jasper to help train students to install and maintain electric chargers. Funds for the projects came from the Federal Highway Administration to strategically put the charging stations within reasonable charging distances for electric vehicles. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, most electric cars can travel from 200 to 400 miles fully charged.: $581,200 to BP Products North America Inc. to install three chargers at Travel Centers of America Montgomery, 980 West South Blvd.
