The owner of vehicle-maker Vauxhall says the next UK Government needs to fully commit to electric motoring to secure the future of the company's plant atStellantis UK started electric-only van production at Ellesmere Port in September 2023, and intends to transition its Luton plant to build electric vans from the first half of next year.
Under the zero emission vehicle mandate, at least 22% of new cars and 10% of new vans sold by each manufacturer in the UK this year are required to be zero emission, which in most cases means pure electric.Under the rules of the mandate, manufacturers risk being required to pay the Government £15,000 per polluting vehicle sold above the limits.
