Following the announcement of the opposition's plans, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Energy Minister Chris Bowen and Treasurer Jim Chalmers all rubbished the policy, with the latter claiming it"might be the dumbest policy ever put forward by a major party". However, speaking to Sky News Australia, Mr Littleproud defended the proposed shift, as he claimed the government was uninterested in having a"sensible" discussion about the issue.
