Germany is aiming to increase its onshore wind energy capacity to meet its climate goals. Currently, only 0.8% of the country's land area is approved for onshore wind energy, but the government plans to allocate 2% of land area for wind power by 2032.
This means installing between 1,000 and 1,500 new turbines a year. Germany needs wind energy to achieve its target of becoming carbon neutral by 2045, as it has missed its emissions reduction targets in the past two years.
