THE Energy Regulatory Commission will allow distribution utilities to prepare for the lowering of the Rcoa threshold to 100 kilowatt-hour .
The establishment of Rcoa is mandated by the Electric Power Industry Reform Act of 2001 to offer options to the end-users and grow the market. It is also expected to lower power rates as it will further tighten competition among electricity suppliers. Meanwhile, Dimalanta said her office will soon come out with the price determination methodology that will be used to evaluate price offers submitted by bidders in the third round of the green energy auctions .
The first round of GEA was conducted in 2022. It generated almost 2,000 MW of capacities that were committed to deliver energy from 2023 to 2025.
