Think about it. The last census carried out in 2022 reported that Offaly had a population of 83,150. So, you could fit every man, woman and child in the county into Croke Park and less than a thousand would be locked out.
There is also the issue of how many supporters Tipperary will bring but, suffice to say, those wearing blue and gold will be significantly outnumbered by those in tricoloured hoops. Leinster brought tens of thousands to London for the Champions Cup final last Saturday and filled Croke Park for the semi-final but that’s a whole province so, per capita, it doesn’t tally anywhere close to Offaly’s support.
Netwatch Cullen Park was sold out for last year’s Leinster under-20 final win over Wexford and of the 29,380 that attended the Cork-Offaly/Clare-Galway under-20/minor double header in Thurles last June, Offaly had by far the biggest support.
