North Lanarkshire Council will work with other nearby local authorities as it seeks to expand provision of electric vehicle charging facilities.
They have also agreed in principle to join a working agreement across all eight councils in the region which would see one local authority designated as leader of the group and involve Glasgow City Region management using funding for work ultimately leading to a commercial partner being appointed, which would significantly limit the financial risk to councils.

That group published a notice of its intentions last year which attracted significant interest from the private sector and also led to widely supported recommendations that this be continued at regional level. Recent forecasts indicate that £71 million will need to be invested across the city region to provide an adequate number of additional charging points, though this is yet to be agreed with Transport Scotland.
