London Trucks are guzzling ever more diesel, polluting towns and cities and fueling climate change. Germany thinks it may have found the answer by using overhead lines to power big rigs.
A system that allows trucks to draw electric power from overhead cables went into operation on 10 kilometers of the autobahn on Tuesday, according to the German government. It's the first such test on a public road in Germany. Developed by Siemens , the system allows big rigs with special equipment mounted on their roofs to connect to electrified lines while traveling at speeds of up to 90 kilometers per hour .
This people are going far places .. a very good and bright inniciative
Haha! xD Looks kinda awkward, but at least it's a more practical and realistic solution compared with net zero emissions. That is given the E source is 'clean', which I assume it is. :P
To clarify for those who think this is nothing new to the world: Yes, europe has already electric busses, trams and trains etc. What 'new' here is, that Trucks get their own electric highway. Just imagine your american Semi Trucks go electric like this. That's the topic here.
Philly has been doing this for years with public transportation.
Those mechanisms would be knocked off and destroyed immediately, in the US, by most of the overhead bridges that are not high enough.
Germany is light years ahead where the “greatest nation on Earth” should be
The electrobahn
San Francisco been doing that forever
The 5Km Stretch of Highway used is making a great Impact that it made the news,Now all we need is the entire Planet to get in on the Action let's all depend on the compounds and chemicals that make up the Battery to Run all vehicles, things will be so much better,Where is? Greta.
If you can connect an '87 pickup with coal, the US is interested
Ugly as hell and definitely not a new idea but makes sense for vehicles traveling long pre-determined paths.
We had buses in Edmonton, Canada doing that since way before I was born in the early 80s. They invented electric vehicles in the 1800s! Chew on that!
We are going to do that in Georgia with natural gas.

California can’t even get a highspeed rail working.
Germany is one only
How amazing is this!
we opened a new coal mine
Couldn't do that in Louisiana because we would find some kind of way to corrupt entire process. All of those trucks would come to a halt in lake Charles Louisiana.
Cant wait for our future generations to deal with the dead batteries full of harsh acids, way to go tree huggers.....
We got rid of trolleys decades ago
You didn’t know it was trumps idea?! 😂😂😂
Great climate change innovative scheme
There was another school shooting with 8 innocent children shot , and you are not covering it 😠
At what point is this any better than just sending your goods by Rail.... Sorry but this, if real... is pointless and dumb.
We had busses doing that going up & down western ave back in the late 60's,,,nothing new here!
