The Nation Newspaper Yola varsity set to power campus activities with solar energy

Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Abdullahi Tukur, made the announcement on Tuesday, April 30, just as he expressed the alarm that if something radical is not done by the federal government or concerned institutions, higher institutions would soon be unable to provide electricity to students.

Explaining that the solar project will entail the provision of alternative 24-hour solar power for the university, the VC announced that a dedicated land has been allocated for the construction of a solar panel farm as well as modalities on maintenance and sustenance of the projected five megawatts of electricity to be supplied.

“The astronomical cost of providing basic essential services and utilities is having a big impact on the institution,” the VC lamented, adding that without quick and huge interventions, “most, if not all universities might not be able to provide power and water.”
