The Liberal government has proposed several investment tax credits intended to support the energy transition, but none have yet passed into law.

Pushing forward long-awaited net-zero investment tax credits should be a high priority if Canada is to accelerate the energy transition and close the gap with China, according to the federal director of the Canadian Renewable Energy Association. “I think Canada can close the gap, and I think that Canada has an obligation to start looking at it in a way that addresses that gap,” said Fernando Melo. “The biggest thing they can do is finalize these investment tax credits that they've got there.

All of this needs to get moving sooner than later,” he said. In regards to Wilkinson, Dion said that his sense is the minster is appreciated in the provinces “as somebody who's candid and frank and ready to get down to business.” “I don't want to necessarily give a report card to the minister, but I think you have somebody who is earnestly trying to wrestle down some of these very difficult files,” said Dion.
