SaltWire's Atlantic regional weather forecast for October 18, 2023 | SaltWireThere is no doubt that climate change is here. Raging forest fires, flash floods, record warming ocean and river temperatures provide clear evidence things are rapidly changing.

The study clearly showed that as river temperatures increased the mortality of salmon sharply increased. Now climate change is driving river temperatures in Newfoundland and Labrador past the recommended 18C redline into the lethal zone. It’s a deadly mix for salmon. "The thousands of pounds of salmon needlessly wasted annually by catch and release anglers could help feed many families suffering in current hard economic times."DFO was busier than a bay man with two wood stoves opening and closing rivers all summer because of climate change – yet persisted in keeping the rivers open to catch and release anglers. Completely ignoring the latest science and climate change in an effort to appease catch and release anglers and big business.

Yet DFO still persist in hanging on to regulations allowing catch and release even though climatic conditions have changed drastically. The era of 13C water temperatures on rivers and five per cent mortality rates are over. That is 40 years out of date. DFO still hasn’t got the memo.

Larry Berman: Why a 'core and explore' portfolio makes senseThe largest five stocks are driving most of the profit growth for the S&P 5 (not a typo) this year. The remainder of the S&P 500 is showing EPS declines on average, with energy being the biggest drag. This should not be a surprise to investors.
