Marcos also vowed his administration’s support for the environment by creating policies to combat climate change.

According to him, such efforts are headed by the Climate Change Commission, which is the policy-making government body on climate change. Earth Day began when Senator Gaylord Nelson from the United States witnessed a massive oil spill in Santa Barbara, California. He then began organizing efforts to raise consciousness on environmental issues.
