Gottsche added the Mexico plant was in the process of increasing its solar production on-site and swapping out natural gas for biomethane. The push comes as manufacturers worldwide shift to comply with more stringent environmental regulations to mitigate their impact on climate change.

Mexico has also increasingly made the push for EVs as it looks to turn half of auto production electric by 2030.on that goal, Gottsche said BMW's sales in Mexico were already 30% hybrid or fully electric.Reporting by Kylie Madry in Mexico City; Additional reporting by Toya Sarno Jordan in San Luis Potosi; Editing by Chizu Nomiyama and David Gregorio

Excellent news for Mexicans. Would it be Solid state or liquid?

F BMW

Looks like they are going to be building these EVs on modified ICE platforms on ICE production lines. How can they be competitive w/o a true EV?

It's all about the $$$! Cheap labor and cheap shipping to the US where fools will purchase the product that will never help the American economy. Then everyone cries that there are no jobs/income. Spend wisely!👍🎯💯

Why? Won't Biden's EPA let them be built in America where they will most likely be sold?

From where is the lithium and cobalt coming?

It has been indicated that batteries powering electric vehicles are mostly not recyclable. Question is, when the world reaches a yearly production around 100 million EVs, and considering a usefulnlife cycle of 2 years won't the resulting contamination become unmanageable ?

That's a lot of batteries with dirty mineral mining.

Are they planning to finally install functional turn signals in their all-electric cars? Asking for the entire world

Huge mistake

eh with power prices going up, that's gonna cost the public more to run those cars.

Why dont you come to jamaica BMW ?

New united auto workers!

ARE THEY UNION JOBS OR $15 HOUR

too bad…batteries are the most toxic artifacts ever created by mankind.

'...start to ramp up (battery) production in 2027' LMAO China is crushing all European and North American OEM's ICE Corps Tesla + Panasonic leads all non-Chinese companies in EV battery production Tesla makes enough batteries to also grow grid Mega Pack business. ENERGY

Units being built for the US market need to be at least 50% built with US made parts or at least 50% built in the US

Cartel labour ?

Mexico will be the next China, wait it out and see!

Odd considering Mexican citizens can’t drive BMW’s for fear of getting jacked up.
