The Treasury Department said Friday it is making more electric vehicles — including SUVs made by Tesla, Ford and General Motors — eligible for tax credits of up to $7,500 under new vehicle classification definitions

General Motors has pushed the Treasury Department to expand the list of vehicles that can qualify for electric-vehicle tax credits under the Inflation Reduction Act.

The change “will allow crossover vehicles that share similar features to be treated consistently,’’ Treasury said, and also will align vehicle classifications under the clean vehicle credit with the classification displayed on the vehicle label and on the consumer-facing website FuelEconomy.gov. GM had publicly asked Treasury to reconsider classification of the Lyriq — which starts at about $63,000 — to allow it to qualify for federal tax credits. Musk tweeted last month that the earlier Treasury rules were “Messed up!”

“I think it’s important that his team, senior members of his team, had a meeting with Elon Musk,” Jean-Pierre said last week.

Sammy_Roth Tax credits only favor the wealthy. We have a system of government that only favors the wealthy. It must change.

Tax credits mean less government revenue. To make up the shortfall, are other taxes increased or is the money borrowed (at current high rates).

To be clear, this is not tax money going to people who take the bus. This is tax money going to people who can afford a new car. Tell me again about welfare queens. Executive branch spending more tax dollars on its own. My God don't let that man drive.
